Smt. N.H.L. Municipal Medical College was founded in 1963 with a capacity of 75 annual admissions, which later increased to 150 in 2000. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation was only the second Municipal Corporation – next to Mumbai to establish a medical college of its own. From its humble beginning, it has now blossomed into one of the most advanced and prestigious medical colleges in the country today. The objective of the college is not only to produce a good doctor but good citizens with empathy for poor patients. The college came into being with pious Triveni Sangam of a generous donation of Rs. 14.25 Lakhs from Smt. Nathiba Hargovandas Lakhmichand charitable trust, the laudable policy of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to promote medical education and to provide the best possible medical care to the citizens of Ahmedabad, and the dedication of Dr. M.D. Desai, the then Superintendent of Sheth V.S. Hospital and founder Dean of the college.
