School of Engineering was established in 1978 for offering part-time M.Tech.Programs in the major disciplines of engineering viz.Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering for practicing engineers in and around Cochin. Research activities were introduced in 1981 with a Ph.D. Programs. The School introduced B.Tech. Programs in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Information Technology in 1995, which turned out to be a milestone in the growth of the School.B.Tech. in Safety and Fire Engineering was added in 1996. A five-year integrated M.Sc. The program in Software Engineering was started in 2001.

School of Engineering has been well accepted as a research center. A number of research projects have been sanctioned to the School by agencies like DSDT, Central Water Commission, ISRO, AICTE, Coir Board, Kerala State Coir Corporation, etc. These have helped to establish fully equipped laboratories and promote research activities. The M.E. (by research) program was introduced in 2001 in various disciplines. The research community of the School has published papers in international/national level journals
